Introducing the KBMO Food Inflammation Test

The KBMO Food Inflammation Test (FIT) is unique in that it tests for food sensitivities, inflammation, and leaky gut all from a single test. It measures immune responses to either 132 or 176 foods and additives, depending on the version chosen, and assesses gut permeability based on key markers.

This test uses a patented multi-pathway testing method that measures both IgG antibodies and immune complexes, specifically the complement protein C3d. This dual approach aims to improve the reliability of food sensitivity detection by identifying inflammatory responses more accurately.

The KBMO test is designed to be a simple ‘blood spot’ test that can be done at home, making it accessible without the need for a pathology collection centre visit.

Why we recommend this food inflammation test

Unknown food reactions are often at the root of a variety of health conditions. When food is overlooked, ongoing inflammation may not resolve, even when other treatment is in play. Our immune systems interact with everything that comes into the body, including food.

The KBMO FIT offers several key benefits for individuals looking to identify and manage food sensitivities and related health issues. By combining IgG and complement (C3d) testing, the FIT test provides a more complete picture of which foods may be causing inflammation. This dual approach helps reduce false positives that are often associated with IgG-only tests.

Detection of Leaky Gut is a key part of optimal health and, uniquely, KBMO evaluates markers for leaky gut, such as zonulin. Elevated zonulin levels can indicate compromised intestinal permeability, a condition often linked to autoimmune diseases and other health issues.

The reporting of data is presented in an easy-to-read, colour-coded format making it simple to understand your food reactivity.

Compared to the Precision 88 Dietary Antigen test, this test looks at a broader array of foods.

How long do test results take to come back?

Results are usually back within 4-5 weeks of the lab receiving the test sample. We’ll notify you when your results are back.

How will I know if I react to foods that are not tested?

While the KBMO FIT does account for the most commonly reactive foods, we can’t know definitively if there are foods you react to that aren’t on the test.

Once you have eliminated any identified foods and worked with a practitioner to heal your digestion, if you continue to experience symptoms, that may indicate other food reactions.

One way to optimise your elimination, particularly if you feel you are reactive, is consider expanding your known trigger foods to their broader food groups

Eg  if you are positive to dairy, you could choose to also eliminate goat and sheep milks.

Does the KBMO FIT test for allergies?

No. KBMO assesses the IgG pathway, better known as the ‘intolerance’ or ‘inflammatory’ pathway.

This test is helpful if you’re experiencing symptoms which are not typical allergic symptoms like hives, swelling, itching.

If you wish to also test your IgE or allergy pathway, consider the Precision 88 test.

Where can I get a food sensitivity test in Australia?

You can access a KMBO Food Inflammation Test through Melbourne Functional Medicine which will inform foods you are currently sensitive to. Contact us today and we can support you on your health investigation journey.
